These five teenage boys occasionally worked with Lee Anthony Evans, a handy man with a truck. Witnesses have testified to seeing the boys in the back of Evans' truck on the corner of Clinton Avenue and Fabyan Place in Newark, New Jersey on the promise they were to help him move boxes.
On 10/3/2011, Philander Hampton, was sentenced to 10 years for his role in the 1978 killings of these five teens. Hampton, a cousin to Lee Anthony Evans, confessed it was Evans who masterminded the killings as payback because the boys stole a pound of his marijuana. Evans locked the boys in a closet of an abandoned house at 256 Camden Street that Evans had recently just moved out of, nailing the door shut and setting the house ablaze. The boys remains were never discovered in the blaze. In November of 2011, Evans was acquitted of the murder.
